It started with an address change that wasn’t applied correctly. That affected the member’s premium, and eventually the policy was suspended.
By the time the member reached me, they were worried about their coverage and needed help getting the account back in order.
That interaction has stayed with me. It showed me how much a billing problem can affect someone’s confidence in their coverage.
This is an anonymized account from my work. Identifying details and internal system information are left out.
Start with the person
I started by acknowledging the member’s concern. I apologized for the experience and reassured them that I would help work toward a resolution.
I wanted to be calm and confident while taking the problem seriously. The member needed to feel heard as we worked through the account issue.
Coordinate the correction
The problem involved the address change and its effect on billing. My role was to help resolve that connection and coordinate with the billing team, which needed to complete work on the account behind the scenes.
I helped bring the account current and get the suspension lifted. Resolving the issue took coordination, and the billing team’s contribution mattered. I stayed involved through the handoff to billing and followed up with the member afterward.
Make the follow-up call
I offered to follow up, and I did. Before discussing the account, I verified the member’s identity.
That call let me continue supporting the member after the billing work was done. We restored the coverage, and the member was pleased with the help they received.
Why this one stayed with me
This is the kind of work I enjoy: understanding an account problem, connecting with the people who can help correct it, and staying accountable until the member has a resolution.
Correcting the account restored the coverage. Following up let me keep supporting the member after the correction. Clear explanations and reliable follow-up belong alongside the account work.
